Although the storm that for a while was my life has passed and the sun shines brighter than it has in over a year, I still find myself trapped in a cycle of hyper-vigilance, constantly bracing for the next wave of turmoil. The feelings of past anxieties hang on tight, casting doubt on the present's promise. Even though I know that today holds no immediate threats, my mind hangs on to the remnants of panic, caught in the grip of a fight-or-flight response that feels both familiar and unwarranted. It's as if the memories of uncertainty have woven themselves into every fiber of me, making it difficult to fully embrace the peace that surrounds me. Why is it so hard to let go of the unease when the present is so bright? What is really needed is a little spring cleaning of the mind. Refocusing on the present and repurposing thoughts on the wonderful thing that are to come.

Here’s a list of mental spring cleaning habits that can add to your day to day to help clear your mind and promote a more positive mindset.

1. Gratitude Journaling: Write down three things you’re grateful for each day to shift focus from negativity to positivity. Doing this will help youth remember the little things that make a huge difference in your life. my favorite tool for this is the Day Dreamer guided journal because some times you need the gentle nudge of a prompt to get it out.

2. Mindfulness Meditation: Spend a few minutes each day practicing mindfulness to become more aware of your thoughts and feelings without judgment. As little as 7 minutes before you get out of bed can make such a huge difference in the trajectory of the day. And lulling yourself to sleep by counting all of the great things that happened throughout the day while you visualize all of the yuck of the day falling off of you and back to the earth.

3. Positive Affirmations: Create a list of affirmations that resonate with you and repeat them daily to reinforce self-belief. You can do this by writhing them down in your journal or when you go to brush your teeth look yourself deep in the eyes and say them with the utmost love and adoration for yourself.

4. Declutter Your Space: Organize your physical environment, as a tidy space can lead to a clearer mind. Fill your space with things that make you happy like your favorite colors, fabrics or flowers.

5. Limit Negative Influences: Identify and distance yourself from people or situations that foster self-doubt or negativity. If you leave a person or situation feeling drained then it's probably not a good thing. And do know that there is a huge difference between constructive criticism and being a dream killer.

6. Practice Self-Compassion: Treat yourself with kindness and understanding during difficult times, just as you would a friend. This is honestly the hardest for me so I have to work really hard at it. It will almost feel foreign at first but when it becomes natural it feels soooo good.

7. Engage in Creative Activities: Explore hobbies like painting, writing, or crafting to express yourself and boost your mood. Just let your mind wander to all creative spaces that feel good!

8. Physical Exercise: Regular physical activity can improve your mood and reduce anxiety. Honestly sometime all you need to do is sweat it out in the sunshine.

9. Reflect on Achievements: Keep a record of your accomplishments, no matter how small, to remind yourself of your capabilities and remember to celebrate them all because you deserve it.

10. Seek Professional Support: If self-doubt persists, consider talking to a therapist or counselor for guidance. There's no shame in seeking out a life boat when you need it!

adding these habits to your daily routine can help create a more positive mental space. Remember, it’s a journey, and every small step counts so dance or shuffle through it the way you want to!

Carne Asada

3lbs skirt Steak, 2 cups Pineapple juice, juice of 2 Limes, 1/4 cup avocado oil, 1/2 a bunch of Cilantro chopped, 1tbls Beef bullion, Salt to taste, 1tbls Cumin, 3 large crushed Garlic cloves 1 chopped and crushed jalapeño

Rinse your steak and pat dry then salt both sides generously and set aside. In a large ziplock bag combine all of the other ingredients seal and massage the bag until everything is well incorporated. Add your meat to the bag and seal while slowly squeezing out any air. let the mixture sit for at least an hour or over night in the refrigerator for max flavor and tenderness. When ready heat your grill to medium high and cook about 7-10 minutes on each side or longer if you like your steak more on the "done" side. Once you've removed your steak from the grill let it rest on a cutting board for about 5-10 minutes to cool down a bit and keep the meat juicy and tender, the slice your steak against the grain to add even more tenderness and serve with beans and rice, as a taco or how ever you like! easy peasy and one of my favorites.

*Side note you can also put these in the oven at 400 for about 20 minutes aaaaaand once sliced up carne asada freezes and reheats wonderfully!

New Moon Cocktail

KALIMOTXO

Spicy Cucumber Margarita

Makes 2 Margs

4oz Tequila Blanco, juice of 1/2 medium sized Orange, the juice of 2 Limes, 1 peeled English cucumber, 1/2 Jalapeño, Agave nectar to taste and Tajin for the rim.

Chop your cucumber into about 4-6 pieces and add them to a blender and blitz until smooth. While the blender is going take an orange slice and rub it around the rim of your glasses and sprinkle with Tajin. Then add the Orange juice, Lime juice and Tequila and pulse the blender to combine. Slice your Jalapeño and add them to your tajin rimmed glass according to your heat tolerance, bruise them up a bit before pouring the margarita on top and mixing well. This drink is so refreshing and suuuuper easy!

*Side not you can either pour this over ice or add ice to the blender until you reach your preferred thickness.
